Hotel & Resort

From the reception to the restaurant and from the kitchen to the guest rooms- it is important to fully understand the unique flooring requirements in each hotel zone to ensure that the floor provides an attractive, long lasting and functional finish throughout the site.

Hotel flooring demands can vary significantly depending on not just the part of the building in question but also because of factor such as interior design scheme, performance criteria, installation timescale and budget.

For many hotels, the need to stand out from the crowd while maintaining a high end luxury environment is particularly essential.

TALK TO THE EXPERTS

From this presentation we can see that a one-size-fits-all approach cannot be taken to flooring throughout a hotel – as while one area will need a thick, antimicrobial polyurethane another part of the building will need an epoxy with high-end aesthetics and yet another might need to incorporate drainage or be laid to a fall.

To make sure that the right system is chosen for each hotel zone it is important to discuss the requirements of each area with both a supplier and applicator that are well versed in complexities of hotel flooring projects.

AREA OF SUITABILITY

LOBBIES & RECEPTION AREA - This is the first part of a hotel that the guest will see and so is where they will form their all important first impression. Decorative and colorful resin flooring solutions are ideal for creating finishes that will present an attractive appearance but which won’t deteriorate in the face of heavy foot traffic and wheeled suitcase. Seamless resin terrazzo systems are particular effective at creating a high-end, stylish aesthetic.

KITCHENS, BARS AND RESTRUTRANTS - Food handling areas need floors that can stay clean and hygienic in the face of constant foot traffic, spillages, frequent cleaning with strong chemicals and extreme temperature variations.

GUEST ROOMS - This is the first part of a hotel that the guest will see and so is where they will form their all important first impression. Decorative and colourful resin flooring solutions are ideal for creating finishes that will present an attractive appearance but which won’t deteriorate in the face of heavy foot traffic and wheeled suitcases. Seamless resin terrazzo systems are particularly effective at creating a high-end, stylish aesthetic.

LOADING AREAS - Potentially the most cursed area in a hotel! As it is forced to handle the stress from large vehicles that are carrying exceptionally heavy loads, alongside this there will be pallets and boxes dropped and dragged around the area. A heavy duty, high performance floor, such as a thick polyurethane system, is therefore required to resist these intensive abrasions, impacts and loads.

LAUNDRY ROOMS - Water and cleaning agents can quickly wear away an insufficiently robust floor. The coating will also be subjected to less obvious challenges, such as vibration from heavy washing equipment and hot temperatures. Laundry floor need the following properties for the area to operate properly: slip resistance, chemical resistance, imperviousness, seamlessness and durability.

POOL DECKS -Pool decks are slippery areas where there is a high chance of accidents occurring. Durable, textured finishes are ideal for creating long lasting surfaces that enhance traction underfoot. Laying the coating to a fall will also help water to flow away into drainage channels, further reducing the likelihood of slips and trips.

RECREATION CENTRES - These centers handle heavy equipment that put a huge burden through the floor. Thick yet colourful resin coatings that can withstand the movement of treadmills and the impact from dumbbells while adding an upbeat vibrancy and energy into the space should be installed. Locker rooms require a finish that both prevents microbial growth and avoid painful slips and trips.

BUSINESS CENTRES - Multi-utility halls require multifunctional floors. The floor has to create a space conducive to hard work and long meetings - think about the appearance that you want to create, the number of people that will be using the facilities and the potential effect of regularly spilled tea and coffee scraping chairs and high heels on the chosen material.

WET AREAS - Washrooms and other areas where the floors are exposed to liquids require an anti-slip and antimicrobial coating to inhibit bacterial growth. Floor to wall coving will speed up the cleaning routine and ensure that no contaminants or liquids get stuck in the hard to clean gap between the floor and wall.
